Cementos Lima fine US$2.2m for unfair trade practices

Peru’s leading cement producer, Cementos Lima, has been fined PEN5.7m (US$2.24m) for unfair trade practices. The penalty was imposed by Indecopi, the country’s Institute for Competitiveness and Protection of Intellectual Property, as it accused the cement maker of refusing to sell its product to retail outlets that also offer Quisqueya cement, produced by Cemex.

Unacem net profit rises, Peru

Union Andina de Cementos (Unacem) – which comprises the recently merged Cementos LIma and Cementos Andino –  reported a net profit to PEN70.3m (US$27m) compared with PEN42m in the same quarter in the previous year boosted by strong sales. Cementos Lima and Cementos Andino to merge, Peru

Peruvian cement producers Cementos Lima and Cemento Andino are to merge into a single company, the company’s said in a joint statement. Shareholders from both producers on Tuesday approved plans for the merger which will create a new company under the name of Union Andina de Cementos SAA on 1 October, the statement to Peru’s securities regulator said. Cementos Lima reports 8.8% drop in 2Q net income

Peru’s largest cement producer Cementos Lima has reported a fall of 8.8 per cent YoY in second quarter net income to PEN53.6m (US$20.3m). Revenue for the quarter was PEN293m compared with PEN257m a year earlier.

Cementos Lima's 2011 shipments fall, Peru

Cementos Lima, the largest cement manufacturer in Peru, saw cement shipments in 2011 decline by 53,000t, down 1.6% from 2010. This brings the company’s total cement shipments for the year to 3.2Mt. However, cement dispatches in the overall Peruvian rose from 8.5Mt to 8.8Mt. Cementos Lima’s sales are mainly focused on the central coast of the company which saw a decline in mainly in the self-construction markets.
